For decades, I’ve supported teachers in developing problem-based performance tasks and project-based learning assessments. One thing I’ve learned doing this work is that while the overall quality and rigor of most performance assessments has improved, many rubrics still use negative, subjective, and kid-unfriendly language, especially at lower performance levels.
