Transforming to Proficiency-Based/Competency-Based Learning Systems
I've been deeply involved with the development and implementation of NH's Model Competencies and NH's Performance Assessment/PACE project. This work has now expanded to school districts in many states, including a new year-long PD series for educators: Developing Competency-Based Performance Assessments of Deeper Learning.
Supporting Deeper Learning for All Students
This school year, I'll continue in-depth work with both small and large districts in implementing a variety of comprehensive strategies to support deeper learning through coaching and assessment development (Springdale, AR; NYC Schools; Gillette, WY; and several OH school districts).
Applying Learning Progressions to Curriculum & Assessment Systems
I continue to provide technical assistance to publishing/testing companies, such as Renaissance Learning & IBM. In 2018, I co-designed a new approach to PreK -K curriculum & assessment for Benchmark Education based on learning progressions research. Rather than a simple scope & sequence approach, this curriculum applies research-based progressions to unit design and instructional strategies across the year for 4-year-olds. Exciting work!
